Garam Masala is a fine dining, authentic Indian restaurant in the heart of Grace Bay in the Regent Village. Dulga, Sonya and I ventured over to the hot dinner spot one evening after work and it would be my first time having Indian cuisine. The restaurant is decorated with Indian fabrics and cushions and the aroma of spices greets you at the door. There is seating available inside and outside but we settled on sitting inside with the air conditioning.
We enjoyed a fabulous meal, the pictures won’t do it justice:
For the main course around the table we ordered Macchli Kerala Masala (chunks of fish cooked in tandoor first and then added to a light coconut milk sauce); Jhinga Kadah (king prawns cooked together with a medley of vegetable in a thick tomato sauce); and Tandoori Beef (short ribs marinated in a yogurt, spices and then tenderized in tandoor).
At the end of dinner, the manager Vinni greeted us. I had an opportunity to ask a question I’m sure most tourist have “why would someone choose to dine at an Indian restaurant while on vacation in Turks & Caicos?” His answer stunned and impressed us. He relayed that the food at Garam Masala is unlike Indian food that the average tourist will taste in America, where it is watered down and the use of spices is compromised to suit the American palette. He said that Garam Masala is true to traditional Indian flavors and spices and is more than just a meal, it is an experience. The pairing of a fine dining atmosphere with the delicious fare is a perfect combination to compliment any vacation. The portions are generous and priced moderately to provide a great value for the customer. We couldn’t agree more!
Garam Masala is a gem in the Turks & Caicos that is not to be missed. Add this fine restaurant to your “must do” list while on vacation - it won’t disappoint!
Take out and resort delivery is also available. The restaurant is located in the Regent Villa at the entrance to Villa Renaissance.
